Heightened security ahead of PM’s visit

Security arrangements in the city and Puducherry have been tightened ahead of the visit of VVIPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on different dates this week. Besides Mr. Modi, Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh are visiting the State capital.

The itinerary

The Prime Minister will arrive in Chennai from Surat on Saturday evening and thereafter take a helicopter to INS Adyar naval base from where he would proceed to Kalaivanar Arangam by road. He is scheduled to take part in the launch of Amma two-wheeler scheme on the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

After spending the night at the Raj Bhavan, the Prime Minister would take off to Puducherry on Sunday morning, where will take part in three functions.

Soon after his participation in the golden jubilee celebration of the Auroville International township, Aurobindo Ashram and a party event in Lawspet, Mr. Modi would leave for Chennai and then to Delhi.

Mr. Naidu is expected to arrive in Chennai on Wednesday night and attend a function at an education institution on the Poonamallee High Road the following morning.

After attending a function on Friday evening in which he would release commemorative stamps, the Vice President would leave for Visakhapatnam on Friday night.

Mr. Singh would arrive in Chennai on Thursday evening. After attending a function in Brick Kiln Road, he would leave for Delhi on Friday.
