Heavy rains likely in coastal TN, Puducherry

Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry could be in for some very heavy rainfall, with the Meteorological Department predicting heavy to very heavy rains over the regions in the next 24 hours, beginning 8.30 a.m. on Sunday.

“Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and at a few places over interior Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours,” the Met said.

“Isolated heavy to very heavy rain would occur over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during next 24 hours. Heavy rain would also occur over interior Tamil Nadu during the same period,” it said.

Moderate to rather heavy rain would occur at many places over Chennai and in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry, it said.

Pamban and Rameswaram each received 9 cm, while Mannargudi and Thiruthuraipoondi both received 7 cm in the 24-hour period, ending 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, the Met said.
