Heavy rains continue to batter Tamil Nadu and Puducherry due to a new trough of low pressure lies over Bay of Bengal with weathermen predicting more rains during 24 hours beginning 8.30 am today.
“A trough of low pressure extends from Sri Lanka to North Tamil Nadu Coast across palk strait. Under its influence heavy rains is likely to occur Northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 24 hours starting 8.30 am today”, Met officials here said.
Moderate to rather heavy rain would occur at many places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the period, they said.
Meanwhile, rains in Chennai and its suburbs since morning thrown life out of gear. Office goers waded through shallow waters. Traffic was also severely affected due to water logging at different places. Trees were uprooted in many places.
Avinashi, in Tiruppur disrict recorded a maximum of 5 cm rain during the 24 hours ended at 8.30 am today while Chennai recorded a maximum of 39.4 mm rain during same period.
For Chennai, officials said that the sky conditions would be generally cloudy. Few spells of Rain or thundershowers would occur, heavy in some areas.
Minimum temperature would be around 24 degree Celsius, they said.
