Heavy rain likely in Tamil Nadu

With the trough of low pressure over south west bay and adjoining west central bay off Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast still persisting, heavy rain is likely to occur at many places in the state in the next 24 hours starting 0830 hrs Friday, weather officials here said.

Rain is likely to occur at many places over Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukottai districts of Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry, officials said.

Vallam in Thanjavur district recorded maximum rainfall of 11 cm during the last 24 hours ending 0830 hrs while Chennai alone recorded 6 cm of rainfall during the same period.

In Chennai the weather would be generally cloudy with one or two spells of shower or thundershower and the minimum temperature will be around 23 degree Celsius, the officials said.

The state has been experiencing intermittent rains over the past two days.
