DINDIGUL

After a long gap, sharp showers rocked Theni and Dindigul districts on Sunday, much to the relief and joy of farmers. People heaved a sigh of relief in urban areas.

The heavy rain that lasted for three hours in Dindigul city and nearby areas brought the temperature down. Rainwater stagnated in low-lying areas. The sky was overcast at various places in the district.

Sharp showers on lower and upper Kodaikanal hills not only changed the climatic condition but also cheered farmers, especially horticulturists.

The hill station received good rainfall between 12 midnight and 3 a.m. The residents witnessed the second spell of rain between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The flow was good in Silver Falls and other forest streams. Officials said the sharp showers in Kodaikanal would ultimately improve water storage in major dams near Palani.

Several parts of Theni district recorded moderate to heavy rainfall in the morning. Periyakulam and nearby areas received heavy downpour.
