Heavy rain in Nagercoil

Heavy rain lashed various parts of the district for the second day on Wednesday. Low-lying areas were flooded and the sky remained overcast throughout the day. Fishermen did not venture into sea.

The price of flowers in Thovalai market shot up with the beginning of the Tamil month of Karthigai. The rate of marigold was Rs.1,000 per kg and Rs.500 per kg for jasmine.

Three persons of Mandaicaduputhoor were killed on the spot when lightning struck at Manavalakurichi, and 32 others who sustained injuries were admitted to hospital.

The Bishop of Kottar diocese, Peter Remigius, member of Lok Sabha J.Helen Davidson, former member A.V.Bellarmine, former Health Minister N.Thalavai Sundaran, secretary of Indian Red Cross Society S.Natarajan and others visited the hospital.

The maximum rainfall of 198 mm was recorded in Kurunthencode followed by 186 mm in Colachel, 142.4 mm in Eraniel, 136.8 mm in Mullankinavilai, 77.4 mm in Myladi, 62.4 mm in Kottaram, 39.4 mm in Perunchani, 37.9 mm in Nagercoil, 34.2 mm in Anaikidanku, 32.6 mm in Kannimar, 25 mm in Nilapparai, 22.2 mm in Boothapandi and 14 mm in Surulode.

The water level in Pachipparai stood at 38.45 feet, 67.30 feet in Perunchani, 15.71 feet in Chittar I and 15.81 feet in Chittar II.
