Arrival of pilgrims to Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple on Palani hill for Panguni Uthiram festival has touched its peak on Sunday.

Around two lakh pilgrims thronged the temple town on the ninth day of the festival.

Braving scorching sun, thousands of pilgrims were waiting in a long queue for more than five hours for darshan at Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy hill temple. Majority of pilgrims carried holy water, milk and paneer for abishekam to the main deity, a navabashanam idol.

Pilgrims, carrying kavadis on their shoulders, were chanting holy hymns, beating percussion instruments and dancing on Giri Veedhis. Some pilgrims were hanging in chains on the giant size kavadis attached to giant cranes. Arrival of pilgrims from Kerala too has increased manifold this season.

Pilgrims had to wait for hours to get tickets for winch and rope car stations. Panchamritham sale in all counters was picking up well, said temple officials.

The TNSTC has been operating additional services to various places from the temple town for the convenience of devotees.

The 10-day festival will conclude on Monday.
