Three persons were killed when a Pondicherry University bus collided with a two-wheeler on ECR in Bommiarpalayam on Wednesday. Around 20 students who were travelling in the bus sustained injuries when the bus overturned.
Two college students and one 22-year-old man were killed in the accident that took place in Bommiarpalayam. The two students were heading to college in the morning on Wednesday, when the two-wheeler they were travelling on collided with the University bus. After the collision, the bus driver slowed down the bus and jumped off, causing the bus to overturn, injuring 20 university students.
According to Superintendent of Police (Villupuram) S. Manoharan, the head-on collision took place in Bommiarpalayam. Veeramuthu (22), Prabhavati (18) and Monisha (18) from Keezhpettai were travelling on the two-wheeler that collided with the University bus heading towards Kalapet.
Prabhavati was caught in the wheel of the bus and died on the spot. Veeramuthu was brought dead to the Puducherry Government Hospital, while Monisha died while undergoing treatment at the GH.
The students who were caught in the bus when it overturned were taken to the PIMS. Three of the students were admitted for further treatment, officials at PIMS said.
