Headmaster of a Panchayat Union Primary School has been arrested for alleged sexual harassment of children aged between 6 and 10 years.
Police said C. Nambirajan (49), former headmaster of Panchayat Union Primary School at Singarathoppu near Thisaiyanvilai, sexually harassed the schoolchildren for the past two years. The matter came to light when one of the affected girls informed her parents recently.
“Though the parents of a few affected children forwarded complaints to the officials of the Department of Education in Tirunelveli, including the District Elementary Educational Officer, no action was taken. When the public were about to start an agitation, Nambirajan was transferred to another school at Karambedu near Thisaiyanvilai a couple of months ago,” a police officer said.
Based on the complaint from Jancy Rani of District Child Welfare Committee, All Women Police arrested Nambirajan on Tuesday night under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was remanded in judicial custody.
