The Madras High Court on Thursday stayed all further proceedings in a criminal case booked against Pattali Makkal Katchi youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss, also a Member of Parliament, in 2014 on charges of threatening a tahsildar in Dharmapuri district and preventing him from discharging his duty during the parliamentary elections that year.

Justice M.S. Ramesh, who heard the petition, granted the interim stay. He also ordered notices to the Inspector of Dharmapuri Town Police Station as well as the tahsildar P. Gunasekaran, who had lodged the complaint. , on the petitioner’s main plea to call for all records related to the case pending before a judicial magistrate court in Dharmapuri and quash them.

Acceding to a request made by the petitioner’s counsel K. Balu, the judge also dispensed with personal appearance of the MP before the lower court until further orders. In his affidavit, the petitioner had claimed that the entire allegations levelled against him by the Tahsildar were “baseless, vexatious and politically motivated.”
