HC disposes of petition on TANSI land

March 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:18 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court has disposed of a writ petition seeking to invalidate the May 1992 sale of TANSI land here to Jaya Publications, as the matter has become infructuous.

The First Bench comprising the Chief Justice S.K.Kaul and Justice M.M.Sundresh passed the order on a petition by R.S. Bharathy.

Initially, the petitioner sought a declaration that the action of the Secretary, Industries Department, Chairman and Managing Director, TANSI and Ms. Jayalalithaa, in conveying the land and building of TANSI foundry at Guindy here was illegal. Later, the prayer was amended to seek a declaration that the sale deed of May 24, 1992 executed by the Chairman, TANSI, in favour of the publications was invalid and inoperative.

The Advocate-General submitted that the property in question stood re-conveyed and thus the petition had become infructuous.

Recording the AG’s statement, the Bench disposed of the petition.
