MADURAI
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday ordered notice to K. Krishnasamy, founder-president of the Puthiya Tamilagam, on a petition seeking an enquiry into his community certificate.
A division bench of Justices M. Venugopal and Abdul Quddhose adjourned the case till January 4.
The petitioner, Siva Jayaprakash of Tirunelveli, secretary of ‘Mallar Bharatham’, alleged that the community certificate of Dr. Krishnasamy was not genuine. The PT leader was elected to the State Assembly from Ottapidaram (reserved) constituency in Thoothukudi district in 2011.
The petitioner said the Dalit leader had obtained the permanent community certificate from the Tahsildar (South), Coimbatore. However, a permanent community certificate could only be obtained from the place of birth of a person, and it was Udumalpet in the case of Dr. Krishnasamy.
Incidentally, a similar petition was dismissed earlier by the court.
