The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday directed the Karur Deputy Superintendent of Police to consider a plea made by former Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji to grant permission for a fast to express his opposition to the State government’s decision to shift the site for construction of a government medical college hospital from Kuppuchipalayam to Sanappiratty.

A Division Bench of Justices A. Selvam and N. Authinathan passed the order on a public interest litigation petition filed by Mr. Balaji. Though the case was filed a few days ago seeking permission for the fast on Friday, the judges directed the petitioner to make a fresh representation to the DSP mentioning a new date and directed the latter to dispose of the representation at the earliest.
