Three of the 17 children rescued from an orphanage were allowed to go with their parents after they could produce convincing proof like ration cards to establish their relationship with their wards.
When officials attached to Department of Revenue raided the unauthorised orphanage ‘Sharon' at Nallur near Suchindram in Kanyakumari district on Wednesday, they rescued 17 children including three girls.
Sources said the team, led by Revenue Divisional Officer Natarajan, raided the orphanage, run by Titus Duraisingam of the same area, following information from the public that the home was being run by him without proper permission for the past three years.
The team found that the home had poor infrastructure facilities which were not enough to house 17 children, all aged between three and 16 years, who were not fed properly. Following this development, Titus Duraisingam went underground.
The rescued children were brought to Tirunelveli-based ‘Saranaalayam', a home being run by the Roman Catholic Christian missionaries for the orphans and the destitute.
On coming to know about the children's pathetic condition, parents, who had admitted their kids in the home owing to abject poverty, rushed to ‘Saranaalayam.'
