Growth rate down in T.N.: Karunanidhi

April 20, 2014 04:09 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:38 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Growth rate in Tamil Nadu had reduced after 2011-2012 because of deadlocks caused by the policy decisions of AIADMK government on infrastructure projects, said DMK president M. Karunanidhi.

Campaigning for DMK’s South Chennai candidate T.K.S. Elangovan on Saturday, Mr. Karunanidhi said infrastructure projects including flyovers to ease traffic congestion in the city have been shelved by the present State government.

“Work on construction of a flyover to ease traffic congestion in Porur has been put on hold by the AIADMK rule,” he said.

“People who question the policy of the State government are being threatened,” said Mr. Karunanidhi.

Pointing to data released by the Planning Commission, Mr. Karunanidhi said the growth rate in Tamil Nadu was higher than that of Gujarat during the DMK regime.

“The growth rate was 10.8 per cent in 2009-2010 in the State. In 2010-2011, growth rate increased to 13.12 per cent. It was 10 per cent in Modi’s Gujarat at that time. But Tamil Nadu’s growth rate reduced to 7.42 per cent in 2011-2012,” said Mr. Karunanidhi.

He also attributed price rise in the State to the impact of policy decisions of the AIADMK government.
