Green Tribunal bars hospital activity at Omandurar Estate

February 07, 2013 12:07 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:40 am IST - CHENNAI:

The National Green Tribunal, Southern Bench, on Wednesday restrained the State government from carrying out any alteration or modification of the structure at the Omandurar Government Estate on Anna Salai here and also from running any hospital activities there until the disposal of an appeal.

An appeal filed by an advocate R. Veeramani against environmental clearance granted by a State-level authority has been pending before the Tribunal.

The Bench said the Tribunal was satisfied that the appellant had made a prima facie case for granting interim injunction.

It pointed out that the Tribunal framed questions on the validity of the environmental clearance granted by the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority on whether it considered all the necessary parameters for conversion. The State government was a party before the proceedings. Hence, any alteration would be considered as an act done contra to the proceedings.
