The government-aided minority educational institutions in Tamil Nadu were facing shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff, badly hitting the quality of education, State Minorities Commission Chairman Vincent Chinnadurai on Wednesday said.
The quality of education had been badly hit in the institutions due to non-filling of vacancies for several years, he told reporters after a meeting with representatives of the minorities at the Collectorate here.
He hoped that the government would take into notice this problem and do the needful shortly. Claiming that the Central and State governments were showing keen interest in protecting the welfare of the minorities, Chinnadurai said Financial assistance to the minorities under various schemes had increased over the years from Rs.four crore to Rs.40 crore.
The pre-and post-matric scholarship for minority students touched a record of Rs.12 crore this year. The commission was also taking up the issue of “internal bickerings” in some of the minority-run institutions in the state, he said and assured that steps would be taken to sort out the differences, so that teachers and students were not affected.
