The State government, which is set to introduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill in the floor of the Legislative Assembly in the forthcoming session, has requested all dealers in the State to register themselves with the GST portal with a Digital Signature Certificate or e-Signature at the earliest, so as to ensure a seamless migration to GST.

The registration process, which commenced on January 4 this year, was suspended from May 1 to 31, and reopened from June 1, stated an official release.

“The dealer migration to the GST portal in view of the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax throughout the country is proposed to be closed on 15th June 2017,” it added.

The dealers have to compulsorily register with the portal with Digital Signature Certificate (in case of companies) or with e-Signature (proprietor/partnership) using their Aadhaar number.

But most of the dealers who have already completed the initial signing have yet to complete the registration with Digital Signature Certificate / e-Signature.

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), which has been established to provide IT Infrastructure and other services to support the implementation and administration of GST in the country, has created the GST portal www.gst.gov.in. Registration can be done using the provisional IDs and passwords sent through email and through the portal https://ctd.tn.gov.in.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister D. Jayakumar had said in a GST Council meeting in Srinagar recently that the State GST Bill would be introduced in the Assembly this month.

“The Cabinet has cleared the Bill and it would be tabled in the forthcoming Assembly session,” a senior official said.
