The State government on Monday decided to approach International Association of Tamil Research (IATR) and get its approval for the ninth World Tamil Conference to be held in January next.

Noboru Karashima, IATR president, would be contacted. V.C. Kulandaisamy, vice-president of the Association, would organise a meeting of the Association’s executive and the formal approval would be obtained. In this regard, Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi would write letters to the president and vice-president of the Association.

To inform Tamil scholars from time to time, a website on the conference would be hosted.

All these were decided at a meeting chaired by Mr Karunanidhi. Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Tamil Virtual University Chairman Dr. Kulandaisamy, former Anna University Vice-Chancellor M. Anandakrishnan, archaeologist Iravatham Mahadevan, IATR treasurer Muthukumarasamy, Tamil University Vice-Chancellor M. Rajendran and Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament, attended the meeting.
