Members of Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association has urged the government to drop the proposed new pension scheme, which they said was against the welfare of the employees.
Over 30 members of TNGEA thronged in front of the taluk office on Thursday in Krishnagiri and staged a demonstration as decided by the National Executive Committee meeting of the National Federation of State Government Employees’ Associations and also the TNGEA’s state executive committee meeting.
It was decided to organise three stages of protests. As part of this, the first stage of protest was organised in three towns - Krishnagiri, Hosur and Denkanikottai in the district.
Demands
The seven-point charter of demands includes scrapping of new pension scheme and revert to old pension scheme, merging 50 per cent of DA with the basic pay, offering regular scale of pay to employees who had been working on consolidated pay in various government departments, fixing minimum basic pay as Rs. 10,000, bringing down inflation and expanding public distribution system.
The association also demanded creation of additional employment opportunities in government and government public sector organisations and extending two years maternity leave to women staff like central government employees and also extending provision of toilet and rest rooms in government offices.
In Krishnagiri, the agitation was presided over by V. Ramasamy, taluk president. K. Agoram, State Vice-President, and C. Vidyananandan, district joint secretary, among others spoke.
In Hosur, P. Perumal, taluk president, presided.
