The website of Heart Exnora, www.heartexnora.org, was launched here on Sunday as part of the ‘World Heart Day Celebrations 2009.’
Heart Exnora aims to identify and help underprivileged children suffering from heart disease. It is an initiative of Exnora International.
Speaking at the function, Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said the government was ready to support initiatives for creating awareness on prevention of heart diseases.
Humour induces the secretion of hormones which gives a positive state of health, said V. Chockalingam, senior Cardiologist.
He stressed the need for the right combination of food, exercise and a healthy mindset for a healthy heart.
Dr.Chockalingam said, “There is a need for more awareness, as a higher proportion of youth was seeking medical intervention for heart diseases.”
Founder of Exnora International M.B.Nirmal said NGOs such as Exnora were ready to shoulder the responsibility for creating awareness on heart diseases.
World Heart Day, falling on the last Sunday of September every year, is celebrated to create awareness among people around the globe.
The theme of 2009 ‘Work with Heart’ specially focuses on the workplace and stresses the need for the contribution of governments, employers and workers around the world to make workplaces healthier.
The highlight of the awareness campaign would be the workplace wellness programmes that encourage healthy diets, physical activity and restrictions on tobacco use as a cost-effective way to improve productivity.
Managing Director of The Hindu N.Murali launched the website of Heart Exnora. Actor Kamal Hassan received the first copy of ‘Mind your heart DVD’ from Mr.Stalin.
A.V.M.Saravanan received the first copy of the updated version of the books ‘Mind your heart,’ and ‘Idayam Kakkha.’
Finance Minister K.Anbazhagan issued Heart Exnora health cards to beneficiaries.
