A four-foot-high bronze statue of poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, complete with choicest couplets from his celebrated work Thirukkural , was unveiled by Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao in the presence of dignitaries at the Raj Bhavan here on Sunday.
The Governor, who has taken a keen interest in installing the statues of personalities who have contributed to the richness of the Tamil language, informed that a statue of Tamil poet Avvaiyar would soon be unveiled at the campus.
“The children can touch the plaque and hear the recital of Athichudi ,” the Governor said at a gathering of officials, educationalists and students. The Thiruvalluvar statue, designed by Kishore Nagappa Sthapathy, is 4-feet-high, 3.5-feet-wide and installed on a pedestal of 4.5 feet in height and 4 feet in width.
