The government on Tuesday filed a complaint against the Tamil biweekly Junior Vikatan in the Principal Sessions Court for publishing a news item that allegedly defamed Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
The complaint was filed by City Public Prosecutor (CPP) M.L. Jegan on behalf of the Chief Minister. The Editor, publisher and printer of the magazine have been cited as the accused.
According to the CPP, the magazine in its issue dated June 24 published a report that a ‘yagam’ was supposed to be performed in Ms. Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence. The complainant stated that no yagam or pooja was supposed to be held at the residence of Chief Minister or at Paiyanur for any purpose. Further, the publication of the Chief Minister’s photograph on the cover was done deliberately to defame her, he added.
