Government acting with political vendetta: Anbumani

June 27, 2013 03:39 am | Updated 03:39 am IST - CHENNAI:

Former Union Minister and PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday accused the State government of acting with a sense of political vendetta and detaining afresh his party workers after the Centre revoked their detention under the National Security Act (NSA).

In a statement here, he said the Union Home Ministry had revoked the detention of Palani and Mari, two PMK men from Kancheepuram district, on the ground that none of the rules that warranted invoking of NSA was followed in their case. They were released under Section 14 (2) of the NSA.

Mr. Anbumani said the State government got wind of the Centre’s decision and immediately detained them again under NSA.

Recalling a Supreme Court order that NSA could not be invoked against anyone so long as it was not established that he posed a threat to national security, Mr. Anbumani said the rule had been clearly violated.

He said both Palani and Mari were daily wage-earners and their families were in dire straits after their arrest.
