Seven PMK cadres have been detained under the National Security Act and one under the Goondas Act in Tiruvannamalai district. District Police Office, in a communiqué released here on Monday, said the PMK men indulged in several violent activities following the arrest of their party founder S. Ramadoss recently.
Two company buses of Nokia were torched at Seevaram and Mel Bootheri villages in Cheyyar taluk on May 3.
Police arrested the seven PMK men in connection with the two incidents, remanded them to judicial custody and lodged them in Vellore Central Prison.
On the recommendations of Superintendent of Police J.Mutharasi, Collector Vijay Pingale issued orders to detain Baskaran (37) and Shanmugam (39) of Brammadesam, G.Yemanathan(33), N.Ramachandran (42) and G.Kumaran (36), P.Ravichandran (24) and K.Madavan (27) —under the National Security Act on Monday.
R.Sampath of Kizhakkumedu village in Polur taluk, Chetpet (west) block secretary of PMK, who was charged with hurling stones on buses, has been detained under the Goondas Act.

Two functionaries of PMK – G. Alayamani, deputy general secretary and M. K. Stalin, Thanjavur district secretary – were also detained under the Goondas Act. Two cases have been registered against Stalin. The cases related to damage to a TNSTC bus at Thiruneelakudi near Kumbakonam on April 30 and picking up a quarrel with Sub-Inspector of police, Papanasam, on December 12, 2012.
Alayamani and Stalin were arrested on May 1 when they tried to organise an agitation at Kumbakonam. Orders detaining them under the Goondas Act were served on them at Tiruchi Central Prison.
