Senior AIADMK (Amma) leader and State Finance Minister D. Jayakumar on Sunday indicated that the much-anticipated reunification of the factions led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and rebel leader O. Panneerselvam could take place on Monday.
When quizzed by mediapersons about the ongoing talks between the rival groups, he said, “Whatever happened has happened for good. Whatever is to happen will be good too and would happen tomorrow (Monday).”
Recalling the efforts made by late party leader and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in uniting a divided AIADMK two decades ago, Mr. Jayakumar said, “If at all a great, broken movement got back together, it was the AIADMK...It will happen [this time as well].”
It was the wish of “every AIADMK worker and the people of Tamil Nadu” that the opposing factions should come together, he maintained.
‘Traitor’ barb
Without naming any individuals, the Minister criticised “some persons” for being “traitors” and for engaging in anti-party activities, and further contended that “history will remember them as persons from the black chapter.”
The AIADMK (Amma) government under Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was functioning smoothly and would continue to remain in power till 2021, he proclaimed, adding, “After facing the elections in 2021, there is no doubt that we will continue to be in power.”
