GOMBRT seminar today

The Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust (GOMBRT) is organising a seminar on ‘Current status and future prospects of coastal and marine biodiversity in Gulf of Mannar’ to evolve a scientific approach for the management and sustainable utilisation of coastal biodiversity.

More than 80 delegates were expected to attend the seminar on Friday in Rameswaram, Amit Asthana, Additional Chief Conservator of Forests and GOMBRT Director, said.

“The seminar aims to bring together stakeholders, including scientists, managers, community and representatives from NGOs, with a view to evolving an interdisciplinary scientific approach towards the management and sustainable utilisation of coastal biodiversity,” Mr. Asthana said.

The status of coastal habitats and associated biodiversity, marine pollution, conservation of marine resources, environmental education and awareness would be the themes of the seminar, he said.
