TIRUNELVELI

Unidentified persons have stolen ₹6 lakh-worth gold ornaments from the safe of Thiruvavaduthurai Mutt’s building near Kallidaikurichi in the district.

Police said the gold ornaments, being used during the festival of Manenthi Appar Temple, would be kept in the safe at the mutt’s building at Thalasery near Kallidaikurichi.

When the workers were cleaning the mutt building on Friday ahead of the mutt officials’ arrival, they found the room where the safe had been kept left open. They also found that the valuables kept in the safe were missing.

Mutt officials, after inspecting the spot, said gold ornaments weighing 26 sovereigns were missing.

Based on a complaint filed by mutt authorities, Ambasamudram police have registered a case.
