Every bright acryclic portrait displayed on the walls of Hotel Maison Perumal of CGH Earth Group on Perumal Koil Street is emblazoned with minute rock art forms.

‘One Man Show: Spectacular Colours 2017’ is Puducherry-born artist K. Mounissamy’s seventh solo painting exhibition.

His obsession with cave art forms, bold vibrant colours, portraits and masks continues to reflect in every work of his.

“My art teachers told that every artist should have their unique style. I had a chance to visit a cave temple where I saw important paintings which portrayed ancient life in primitive styles. That inspired me to concentrate on the dying art forms. I include rock art works in every portrait I paint,” he says.

He now re-invokes the ancient aesthetics in all his contemporary artworks.

After completing two-year diploma course in fine arts at Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam in 2003, he took art as his profession while continuing to teach art to children in the rural areas.

He has conducted exhibitions in various places and many of his works have been exhibited in state, national and international shows.

His works on canvas reflect a synthesis of traditional and modern art form. To his oeuvre, he has now added ‘modern woman’ holding a guitar and paintings of yoga.

“Painting is like practising yoga,” he says.

The exhibition will be held till December 13.
