Giving a fillip to Palar River cleaning project

Women’s Forum of Vellore raise funds with a grand cultural show

In a laudable public-private joint initiative, VIT University has made much headway in clearing the bushes in the Palar River bed between the Polur Subramaniam Bridge (Old Palar Bridge) and Konavattam in Vellore.

Launched on January 16, the project is being implemented by VIT in association with the Vellore Corporation, the Rotary and Lions Clubs of Vellore, the Junior Chamber International chapters in Vellore and the Federation of All Traders’ Associations of Vellore.

Various organisations and individuals have contributed money for the project. Having completed thefirst phase, the VIT has taken up cleaning work from the Anna Flyover up to Konavattam.

The Women’s Forums of Vellore comprising the Inner Wheel Club (IWC) of Vellore North, the All India Women’s Conference (AIWC), Gandhinagar Branch and Gandhinagar Ladies Club organised a grand cultural show at the VIT campus here on Saturday to raise funds for the project.

Thilagavathy Ramaiah, president of AIWC, Gandhinagar Branch and past district chairperson of IWC Vellore North presented a cheque to G. Viswanathan, VIT Chancellor, towards the Palar River Cleaning Project Fund at the function.

The cultural performance was given by Subadra Marimuithu & team, Chennai, Anitha Giri & team, Vellore, Pavithra Ganesh and V.S. Paveetra.
