Girls excel in Nagapattinam

It was a girls’ day all the way here, with four girls walking away as district toppers, bagging all three places in the Plus Two exams here.

The district recorded a pass percentage of 87.95, higher than 84.71 registered last year. Girls registered a pass percentage of 90.51 as against 84.53 by boys.

Contrary to the general trend of the district, Nagapattinam outperformed Mayiladuthurai both in pass percentage and gender-wise result.

Nagapattinam education district averaged a pass percentage of 89.25, which was higher than Mayiladuthurai’s pass percentage of 87. Girls secured a pass percentage of 91.89 and boys 85.63 in Nagapattinam.

In Mayiladuthurai, the gender-wise pass percentage was 89.53 by girls and 83.41 by boys.

Deva Abinaya T. of Raj Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuthurai, is the district topper with a score of 1,180 marks. Mathuvanthi S. of Rotary Club Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuthurai, and Bindhiya R of Vivekananda Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sirkazhi, have finished second with a score of 1,179 marks. Vaishali P. of GGS Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuthurai, came third with a tally 1,178 marks.

While the pass percentage of the last three years of 2011, 2012 and 2013 had only shown a marginal increase of 81, 83.37, and 84.71 respectively, this year’s average pass percentage has seen a leap by over 3 basis points.

Three government schools have bagged cent percent pass results. They include Government Higher Secondary School, Sembodai; S.K. Government Higher Secondary School, Thethakudi South; and Government Higher Secondary School, Pushpavanam. Similarly, two aided schools and 12 matriculation schools have secured cent percent pass results.
