The Ambur taluk police on Sunday nabbed a 17-year-old girl for allegedly decamping with 10 sovereigns of jewels from a house at Marapattu.

Police said the girl was working in a shoe company and had gone to the house of Divya (21) at Marapattu at 1 p.m. on June 4 under the pretext of verification for Aadhaar card. Divya was getting married in a week. She had struck a conversation with Divya saying that she could get marriage loan. She had asked Divya to show the jewels purchased for the marriage. When Divya showed the jewels, the girl then asked her to get a blank sheet of paper for applying for the loan. Using this time, she had decamped with the jewels, according to police.

Following a complaint from Divya, police launched a search and nabbed the teenager. Police said she was already involved in a cheating case in Omarabad police station limit. — Staff Reporter
