A 23-year-old girl of Gunamangalam in Sri Mushnam block, was allegedly gang raped by three persons at Vriddhachalam on Monday.
Police sources said that after the sunset on Monday the girl along with her relative went to Manimutharu at Vriddhachalam. While they were sitting on the sands of the riverbed and chatting a group of 10 persons approached them.
The police, quoting the girl, said three of them brandishing a knife snatched her half saree (thavani) and tied up her relative’s hands.
Three others sexually assaulted her. Her relative managed to escape from the place and reported the matter to the police.
Cases booked
The police have booked cases against the accused under Sections 376, 147 and 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code. Subsequently, the police sent the girl to the Cuddalore headquarters government hospital for a check-up.
Different versions
As the hospital is not equipped with a scanner, she was referred to the Villupuram Government Hospital for further examination. The police said the girl gave different versions about the incident.
Inspector General of Police (North Zone) Kannappan and Superintendent of Police A.Radhika are camping at Vriddhachalam to investigate the matter.
