A 12-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by three persons near a village in Sakkottai block in this district on Monday. However, the police have arrested one person in this connection and maintained that it was not a gang rape.

Police said the girl had gone to give drinking water to workers laying pipe line near her house, when she was taken to a secluded place by a person known to the girl's family. Acting on a complaint lodged by the parents, the police arrested Rajkumar within a few hours. He was trying to escape to Coimbatore after committing the crime. With the help of Natham police, the bus in which he was travelling was stopped en route and he was brought back to Sakkottai.

The Sakkottai police arrested him under Sections 376 IPC and 4,6,12 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual offences Act, 2012.
