Of late, the local bodies have come to realise the significance of establishing parks that provide the much-needed lung space and expand greenery.

For instance, the Kurinjipadi Assembly constituency, a stronghold of Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam, has to its credit at least three modern parks within a short span of two years.

The first one had come up at the Cuddalore – Vadalur – Kurinjipadi road junction. It was the first ever beautification effort made by the Kurinjipadi Town Panchayat.

Later, a full-fledged park with playthings had been set up near the Vadalur bus stand. Now to crown it all another park has come up near the Kurinjipadi bus stand at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh.

The Health Minister inaugurated the park and a public convenience built at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh in the vicinity recently. The new park is equipped with a fountain sprouting from a giant figure that is carrying the globe on his head. Playthings such as merry-go-round, sea-saw, slide and swing are the major attractions to children. The residents have welcomed the efforts taken by the local body to provide a space with recreational facilities and ambience to relax in otherwise a backward area.

The health-conscious find it convenient to have a stroll in the park undisturbed, in the mornings and evenings. The visitors have a duty cast upon them to keep the park neat and clean.
