Youngsters should come forward to join politics, BJP State unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan said speaking at the Freshers Day at Nehru Memorial College, Puthanampatti. Youth should preserve and promote our culture. For a nation to progress cultural ethos is very crucial, she said. Pon. Balasubramanian, president, Pon. Ravichandran, secretary, Kumararaman, Principal (in-charge), and A. Prabaharan, dean, spoke. Cultural programmes by the students enthralled the audience.

Workshop

Research scholars, post graduate students and faculty members from various engineering colleges took part in a three-day workshop on ‘Design, Simulation and Research Application of Advanced Wireless Standards using simulation tool’ conducted by the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi. P. Muthuchidambaranathan, G. Lakshminarayanan and B. Venkataramani, Professors, coordinated the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to provide complete training including the latest developments and research applications of advanced design systems. Hands-on training were given by S. Nandakumar and Bhupinder Singh. Swaminathan of Elmack, Chennai, stressed the importance of the simulation tools. S. Raghavan, Professor, NIT-T, emphasised the importance of microwave engineering in wireless technology. He distributed the certificates of merit to the participants.

Do not waste water

Students should take the initiative to prevent wastage of water in view of the looming water scarcity, said K.Rajagopal, junior engineer, Public Works Department, Environmental Cell, while speaking at the inauguration of Thaneer Students Environmental Club, Consumer Club, and Students Exnora at Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts in Tiruchi. Rev. Sagayaraja, Director of the college, presided. Natarajan, Principal (in-charge), M.Sekaran, president, and K.C. Neelamegam, secretary, Thaneer, spoke.

“Develop soft skills”

Developing soft skills and ability to work as team would enhance the employability of the students, E. Ramganesh, Head, Department of Educational Technology, Bharathidasan University, said while speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Commerce Association of National College. He said that these skills can be acquired simultaneously along with the formal education and urged the students to bring out the best in them through conscious effort. R. Narayanasamy, Head, Department of Commerce, R. Sundararaman, Controller of Examinations, P. Chandrasekar, Dean of Arts, and M. Sharmila, vice-president of the association, were present.

Recent trends in

power system

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of M.I.E.T. Engineering College, organised a lecture on Recent trends in power system. P. Sivakumar, Associate Professor, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, was the resource person. A. Mohamed Yunus, chairman, M.I.E.T. Institutions, M.Y. Abdul Jaleel, vice-chairman, S. Guharaja, Principal of the college, spoke.

‘You only can win’

Under the auspices of the Galaxy Association, Department of Physics, Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, organised a seminar ‘You only can win.’ M. Jamal Mohamed Jaffer, Head, Department of Physics, Jamal Mohamed College, was the resource person.

Training programme

Mount Zion College of Engineering and Technology conducted a hands-on training programme on construction materials. Jayson K. Jayabarathan, Director, presided. S. Rajendran, an engineer, said there was a big demand for plumbers and plumbing consultancy offered big scope. Students were given hands-on training on handling various construction materials. P. Balamurugan, Principal, and A. Nixon Azariah, Registrar, were present.

Focus on relationship

Around 300 students participated in a programme on ‘Importance of interpersonal relationship,’ organised by the NSS, JRC, and YRC committee of AIMAN College of Arts and Science for Women. J.O. Jeryda Gnanajane Eljo, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, Bharathidasan University, was the chief guest. V. Subathra, Principal of the college, spoke.
