The police said that a dispute over running a bar attached to TASMAC shop between P. Srinivasan (37) (VCK youth wing district deputy secretary) and the councillor had led to the murder.

The police identified the accused as P. Srinivasan of Thendral Nagar , P. Nathan (52) of Church Street (VCK union secretary), M. Neerathulingam (30) (VCK youth wing union secretary) and V. Ramesh (37) (VCK tow secretary), both from TAHDCO colony. The fifth accused R. Tamilvalavan (32) (VCK cadre wing district organiser) was absconding. The Rajapalayam North police have recovered three weapons used in the murder and a two-wheeler, the Rajapalayam Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ashokan, said.

The police said that Srinivasan was running a bar attached to one of the liquor shops at Tiruvalluvar Nagar. However, it changed hands recently.

Srinivasan had asked Mr. Meenakshi Sundaram to help him get the bar attached with the liquor shop near Cotton Market.  However, the ruling party councillor had allegedly refused to help him.
