Four fishermen from Threspuram, who got stranded at sea, were rescued by the Marine Police here on Tuesday.

The boat suffered engine failure and drifted at mid sea. Swiftly responding to a distress call made through helpline 1093, a fast interceptor boat of the Coastal Security Group reached the spot around 10.30 a.m. and rescued the fishermen, Inspector of Tharuvaikulam Marine Police C. Muhesh Jeyakumar said.

The fishermen on board the stranded boat were located six nautical miles east of Tuticorin old harbour. They ventured into the sea early in the morning on Tuesday.

The rescued fishermen were identified as D. Saveriyar Pichai (55), S. Selvam (20), A. Wilprit (50) and K. Stanley (55).

Their boat was also towed to the harbour, he said.
