Four die as car overturns near Pudukottai

Four persons travelling by a car died after the vehicle overturned following tyre burst on the Tiruchi–Pudukottai national highway at Nakeeranvayal on Monday.

The accident occurred in the afternoon when the passengers were returning home after worshipping in a temple.

Police sources said a group of five persons from Nattusalai village in Thanjavur district offered worship in a temple at Narthamalai. They were returning home in the car when one of the rear side tyre suddenly burst at Nakeeranvayal. In the impact, the vehicle somersaulted and overturned causing the death of four passengers.

The police gave the names of the dead as Amirtharajan, Vetriselvan, Raja, and Nagarajan. The injured Rajendran is undergoing treatment at the Pudukottai Government Hospital. The Vellanur police are investigating.
