A former naxalite, whose premature release was cancelled by the government, was arrested recently when he visited another former naxal at Salem prison.

Radhakrishnan, who was released prematurely in 1993 while serving life term, was arrested on April 22, IG (Prisons), ADGP K. R. Shyamsunder said, after the “mistake” was discovered.

“It was discovered recently that he was released prematurely, after which the government cancelled it in February 2010 and ordered his arrest. He was arrested when he visited another naxal and life convict Gopal in Salem prison,” Mr. Shyamsunder said in an official release.

The accused had also moved the Madras High Court, seeking premature release of Gopal.

While going through papers officials came to know that Radhakrishnan was prematurely released, he said

Radhakrishnan was also convicted in a case of jail-break, the officer added.
