Former Minister accuses govt. of criminal intimidation

Former Minister P. Palaniappan on Tuesday alleged that the State government was resorting to criminal intimidation of leaders who supported T.T.V. Dhinakaran, the sidelined deputy general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Mr. Palaniappan told mediapersons that the government was trying to intimidate and silence its critics by foisting cases and conducting raids on their premises.

Political vendetta

Even experienced leaders like him and Senthil Balaji were being repeatedly threatened. This was clearly political vendetta, he claimed. “If the senior leaders are being harassed in this manner, one shudders to think how newcomers and first-time MLAs will be intimidated,” he said.

Such threats, however, would not deter Mr. Dhinakaran’s supporters, he added.

Earlier, Mr. Palaniappan appeared at the CB-CID office here in connection with the murder of K.R. Subramaniam, a civil works contractor and associate of Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar. He signed the register as per the direction of the Madras High Court.
