Former AIADMK minister Krishnaswamy passes away

Former AIADMK minister K.A. Krishnaswamy, the first MP from DMK to join the party after late M.G. Ramachandran floated it in 1972, passed away here on Tuesday after a prolonged illness, family members said.

He was 78 and is survived by two sons and two daughters.

Mr. Krishnaswamy was the one who gave the name to the then fledgling party (AIADMK). He was a minister in the late MGR cabinet in 1978 and continued in the post till MGR’s death in 1987.

Mr. Krishnaswamy is the brother of late K.A. Madiazhagan, one of the founding members of DMK.

His funeral will be held tomorrow.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has condoled the death of Krishnaswamy.
