An All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionary has submitted a petition to Collector M. Karunakaran seeking action against K.R.P. Prabhakaran, the ruling party’s candidate for Tirunelveli Lok Sabha constituency, in an alleged case of forgery.
In the petition submitted in the Office of the District Collector on Wednesday, K. Poovammal of Peththanadarpatti near Keezhapaavoor in the district said her husband B. Kalingarayan had mortgaged their house for Rs. 17,000 to moneylender Murugan of Aavudaiyaanoor near Paavoorchathram in 2006. As she could not repay the loan properly, Murugan filed a petition before a court in Tenkasi, praying for the court’s permission for bringing the mortgaged property for public auction.
“When I approached Mr. Prabhakaran, an advocate by profession, for filing an affidavit in the court to stop the auction proceedings, he, colluding with another advocate, forged my signature and that of my wife’s in the affidavit submitted in the court that carried statements weakening my stance. Hence, the house was sold in the public auction due to the forged signatures in the affidavit filed by Mr. Prabhakaran. So I’ve submitted a petition to the Collector, who has promised to forward it to the Superintendent of Police for further action,” said Mr. Kalingarayan, an AIADMK cadre, who was elected to Keezhapaavoor Union from Ward 15.
Rejects allegationsRejecting the allegations, Mr. Prabhakaran, who had gone to Chennai, told The Hindu over phone that he had stopped appearing for civil cases 10 years ago and hence he had nothing to do with the forgery charges made against him.
