The Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association has filed a petition before the Madras High Court for a direction to the Chennai Police to act on a complaint regarding an alleged forged document.
The association said Raaj Kamal Film International, which produced the Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Vishwaroopam’ had preferred a complaint with the Competition Commission of India. The producer’s allegation was that the association had passed a “resolution” banning the theatrical release of any film, the DTH version of which had already been released.
Claiming that the association had never passed any such resolution, it wondered how Raaj Kamal could make such a complaint before the Commission when its partner, Kamal Haasan, had thanked the organisation for its unstinted support for the film.
The resolution was on the letterhead of one Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association, an organisation which did not even exist. But the registration number of the petitioner association had been used in the letterhead. Thus, the resolution was a forged document.
Based on Raaj Kamal’s complaint, the Competition Commission ordered an investigation by its Director-General (Investigation), who issued notice to the petitioner association.
The petitioner said it gave a complaint to the police Commissioner on April 15. However, the police refused to act on the complaint. Not even the Community Service Register copy was given as acknowledgment of receipt of the complaint.
