Demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murder of a Forest Guard and his wife by shooting by an armed gang near Nagercoil six years ago, the slain couple’s son submitted a petition at the Collector’s office on Friday.

In his petition, A. Muthukumar said his parents – Arumugam and Yogeshwari – were shot dead by an armed gang on Theroor Road under Suchindram police station limits on November 10, 2011.

Though the police initially said the weapon used in the crime was a ‘service pistol’ and registered case against 18 persons, the investigators later claimed that the bullet recovered from the bodies of Arumugam and Yogeshwari did not match with the firearm seized from the accused.

“Moreover, the police are portraying that a row over a land measuring 72 cents owned by my mother at Puththeri was the reason for the murder, but there was no such property in my mother’s name. We have no enmity with the accused in this case. Though six years had passed, the police, instead of arresting the real culprits, are just diverting the case,” Mr. Muthukumar said in the petition.

He further said even after he told top police officers about the death threat issued by a police officer to his parents over the phone, no step had been taken to interrogate the officer. “Since we have lost faith in Tamil Nadu police, the case should be transferred to the CBI for an effective and unbiased probe,” Mr. Muthukumar added.

Another petition with a similar plea was submitted at the office of the Superintendent of Police by the office-bearers of the Confederation of Tamil Nadu Fishermen Associations.
