Forest fire victim cremated

The mortal remains of techie Akila (24), who was killed in the forest fire in Kurangani in Theni district, were consigned to flames here on Tuesday.

Akila’s parents – Krishnamurthy and Shanthi – are living in Bhagavath Vinayakar Koil Street here while she was working with TCS in Chennai. Her inconsolable parents, along with other relatives and friends, had gone to Theni to receive the body of Akila and returned home in the early hours of Tuesday.

Kumbakonam MLA Sakkottai G. Anbalagan, DMK town secretary SP. Tamizhazhagan, Hindu Makkal Katchi State Youth Wing secretary D. Gurumoorthy, social activist S.M. Martin, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi’s Kudanthai Tamizhini and others offered floral tributes and offered condolences to the bereaved family members.

Later the body was taken to Perumandi burning ghat, and after the conduct of the final rites, it was consigned to flames.
