Judges should draw inspiration from the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Thiruvalluvar and Ambedkar displayed in the courts and render justice properly and correctly said Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale, Chief Justice, High court, Madras at Tiruvaiyaru near here on Saturday.
Laying the foundation stone for combined court buildings, Justice Gokhale said that saint Thiruvalluvar laid the foundation for ethics in life. Mahatma Gandhi stood for truth and won us freedom. Ambedkar framed the constitution.
"All the three have contributed to the field of law in their own ways. Judges should draw inspiration from them and render justice", Justice Gokhale said.
Lawyers should represent the case of the litigants in the most effective way as litigants bring their problems to lawyers and through them to court to solve them, Justice Gokhale said.
Justice Gokhale said that thirty per cent of the Judges in Tamil Nadu are women. He appreciated the Tamil Nadu Government for its efforts in the judicial infrastructure.
Law Minister Durai Murugan said that in the last three and a half years after DMK Government came to power, a sum of Rs. 307 cr. have been spent for improving infrastructure to courts. 103 new courts have been established. Forty six new court complexes have been constructed and 45 quarters for judges have been constructed.
He also assured to look into the demand made by the Union Minister of State for Finance S. S. Palani Manickam for construction of a combined court complex at Thanjavur. Already combined court complex buildings have been constructed at Tiruvarur, Kumbakonam etc. The Government also created 15 new high court judges post for High court.
He appealed to the lawyers to put an end to boycott of courts as a means of agitation to achieve their demands.
High court judges C. Nagappan, S. Nagamuthu, G. M. Akbar Ali, Mr. Palani Manickam, state Ministers Ko. Si. Mani, S. N. M. Ubayathullah also spoke. S.Meenakshi Sundaram, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Thanjavur, welcomed the gathering. T.A.Rengarajan, President, Bar Association, Thiruvaiyaru participated.
