Flying squads, SSTs asked to intensify checks

Flying squads and static surveillance teams (SST) have been asked to intensify vehicle checks and monitoring, to prevent political parties from distributing cash and gifts to voters.

Collector R. Nanthagopal, who is the district election officer, asked the returning officers to take up all election-related work in their respective constituencies.

With the political parties beginning to release the candidates’ list, he asked the flying squads and SSTs to step up monitoring measures to prevent representatives of parties from distributing cash/gifts to voters, a press release said.

Review meeting

He held a review meeting with returning officers (RO) and assistant returning officers (ARO), members of flying squads and SSTs of the 13 Assembly constituencies on Saturday.

He also asked all the ROs, tahsildars and AROs to expedite Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation activities to create awareness on the need to vote among school and college students and public.

Residents of areas, which had registered low turnout earlier, should be motivated to vote in the Assembly elections, the release said.
