Flood warning in five districts

The Public Works engineers issued the first flood warning, alerting Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts as water level in Vaigai dam touched 66 feet at 4 p.m. on Monday. The inflow into dam was 6,300 cusecs and the discharge was 1,869 cusecs only.

Administration in five districts was advised to take all precautionary measures. People residing near the river bank were asked to move to high ridge areas.

The second flood warning will be issued when the level touches 68.5 feet and the third and final warning will be issued and the excess water released from the dam simultaneously, when the level crosses 69.5 feet, Public Works engineers added.
