Five killed in road accident

Five persons were fatally run over by a car and one woman injured at Thuraimangalam on the Chennai-Tiruchi National highway on Saturday, police said.

The dead were identified as C. Vellaisamy (38), S. Srinivasan (35), his brother S. Selvam (37), R. Sathyamurthy and car driver P. Pushpanathan (32).

They were all proceeding from Chennai by car and were standing beside the vehicle after one of its tyres got punctured. They were run over by another car going from Chennai to Pudukottai.

A woman, Meenakshi (50), who was injured, has been admitted to a private hospital in Tiruchi.

Investigation

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, Pon. Manickavel, and Superintendent of Police, Perambalur, Mahender Kumar Rathod, visited the spot. The Perambalur police have registered a case and are investigating.
